You might notice that your device is running more like a snail or a tortoise than the Sea Biscuit it once was. PC’s age like anything else and overtime they need to be replaced. They aren’t like a Toyota or Honda that somehow just run forever. Sometimes your device may only need a bit of a system cleanup. Let’s breakdown a few things that would help you identify if you should upgrade or replace your device.

CPU (The Brain of Your PC)

Ahh, the all-powerful processor that does a lot of work making sure all the tasks on your PC are running. If you’d like to move into 2025 knowing you have something that will last, look for a newish generation i5, alternatively a latest gen i3, at minimum. CPUs are not upgradable on devices and if you’re sitting on an 8th gen processor, it’s probably time for a replacement PC. It’s easy to identify: For example, Core i5-1135, the number 11 just after the i tells you what generation CPU you have. If you’re somehow using a Celeron, please climb off your dinosaur and get back to work!

RAM (Memory, Like a Second Brain)

As crazy as it may seem, moving to 16GB appears to be the new recommended amount of memory. With using new Operating Systems like Windows 11, a new OS requires more resources to function correctly. With more RAM, your business PC can handle multiple applications, browser tabs, and large documents open at the same time, without slowing down. If you use the old, recommended spec of 8GB, it might be time for an upgrade. The good news, on 99% of devices, RAM is upgradable and can save you on replacing in the near future.

Storage (Your Belongings)

You wouldn’t cheap out on that walk-in closet you have in your luxury home. The same can be said for if you still use a normal HDD vs. an SSD. SSDs are much faster than traditional hard drives, significantly reducing boot-up times and improving the speed of data access. A min recommended storage amount is 500GB ensuring you don’t run out of space and don’t need to start deleting files you aren’t sure you really want to remove. The move from a HDD to SSD is completely upgradable. We just clone the data to your SSD.

Operating System (The Heart and Soul)

Windows 10 was really great at its peak, but its time is coming to an end. Did you know Windows 10 will no longer be supported from Oct 2025. Don’t believe me? Check out the article from Microsoft themselves. That means no more updates and patches. Oh no, that means it won’t be safe to use after this date. Plan an upgrade with us, you don’t have to necessarily buy a new PC to get the software, although most new device purchases will include Windows 11.

What Else?

While the above can be said as the general main areas you should consider when looking at your PC specs, there are special roles where things like Graphics Cards, Battery Life, Networking Capabilities and Display Quality may be more important. Have a chat with us so we can nail down those specs and get your horses back in the race 🙂

All the best,
Wesley
