What are Daily Standups?

Firstly, let’s start off by defining what a daily standup is. It’s quite simple, the original term was defined as “Standing up” and saying what a team member did the previous day in their role. Well, today, and for most companies, you don’t necessarily have to “Stand up”. A daily standup is simply, “What did you do yesterday”, “What are your doing today”, and “What do you need help with”. They are generally only 5-min long in total and each team/department should do one. Every team member quickly covers their own in around 30 seconds.

Why are they Important to do?

A daily standup gives clear indication of whether a department is hitting the right targets or KPI’s. They allow for a Departmental or Operations Manager to see if the day-day stuff is getting done the right way and if they need to step in to assist with anything. It gives everyone involved a sense of accomplishment seeing that everyday things are getting done.

How Simpl Does Daily Standups for Support

If you’re reading this and you’re already a client of ours, you should feel quite satisfied after seeing this. Each day at 8:45am, we run through every single ticket. We review the previous days’ tickets if there are any and find out if and why any are still open, then aim to close them effectively. We then look at new tickets and prioritise what we can get done efficiently to make sure the client isn’t waiting.

How Simpl Does Daily Standups for Sales

At 9:15am each day, we run through contacted prospects via our pipeline and see which are making it through the sales funnel. We aim to target a specific number each day. Keeping a sales funnel flowing is the only way to ensure meetings with potential new clients are booked.

Final Thoughts

While each business is different: Size, industry, operations, etc. The fundamentals (Mpho’s favourite word) are the same. Each team or department has a head that needs to guide their team to be successful. Involving every person in each team daily, allows them to feel responsible and accountable, realising the value they contribute to their team. My take is why aren’t you doing standups already?

Best regards,
Wes
