I remember when I was a kid and going outside to play was the normal and natural thing to do. Climbing trees, riding your bike, and playing soccer with friends were some of the best things to do. Nowadays, kids often have cell phones or tablets before they learn to walk.
Being Social
Technology opened many doors, but in a lot of ways it made our worlds smaller. Less time spent with each other, and more time spent in front of a screen. You used to have to go up to strangers and introduce yourself, now we have a pleather of platforms to meet people on: Social Media, Business Platforms, and Dating Sites.
Relationships and Family
An interesting topic especially amongst us all is our relationships. How do we meet new people and how do we maintain existing relationships? Social media and Dating Apps have seemed to have caused harm to relationships and opened some negative doors. Families are also negatively impacted as partners can become so obsessed with their cell phones that they can’t even put them away at the dinner table.
The Workplace
While many companies have maintained a hybrid working environment, some have noticed an impact of the social skills impact this has had on employees and how they interact in person.
The Possible Solution
Be careful with what and how you choose to use technology, especially on a personal level. Be responsible with how you interact with it and think about how those around you would feel. Limit your use of cell phones and being in front of screens in general. We’re all guilty of this but there are things we can do. Go for a walk, see your friends in person and spend time with your families without distractions. After all, we’re all human and require social interaction.
