Coming from a technical background, it’s hard to imagine or understand why your clients are your clients. We like IT, we are geeks, we think it’s cool, so we assume that everyone will think that way too. Oh, were we wrong. This got us thinking: what is the actual relationship between IT and businesses that made our clients our clients in the first place? And I would ask that you go through this exercise with me. Ask yourself: What is the relationship between what you’re building/what you provide and your customers’ business? This is especially important in the B2B sector.

At a very fundamental level, we realized that one of the most important assets of our clients’ businesses was the information they had accumulated. The information about clients, the information they had to share both internally and externally, information on potential leads, past clients, etc. You get the drift. And IT? Well, we realized that IT was at the heart of this. IT provides the means to collect, process, store, and distribute this critical information. Unless you still believe in the good old yellow pages or having a room full of critical client data. IT has become a critical part of doing business.

Well, it honestly depends on how critical the business’s information is. Here are some questions you can ponder:

You’ll know your business better than we would, but this is why I always tell my colleagues that the first red flag when choosing an IT partner for your business is if they provide a one-size-fits-all solution. In IT, it’s almost impossible because there are almost no two businesses that function the same.
